When I first saw Carol's work, my jaw dropped - it was just divine. I wondered how on earth anyone could make things that looked like that.

I jumped at the first opportunity I had to do a workshop with her - and what an experience that was! Anyone who has done a workshop with Carol knows that you come away in a state of 'system overload' - with just so many ideas and techniques to play with. Her work has influenced me greatly, and inspired me so much - I have ended up doing 3 week-long workshops of hers over the years.

I also admire her ability to teach her craft, giving students all the information they need but encouraging them to play and discover their own themes. A class with Carol is super-informative, totally inspiring, and always great fun!

You know that feeling when you first meet some one that you are going to be friends for life? Well, that's what happened when Carol and I met for the very first time, many years ago teaching at Toowoomba.

I respect Carol in every way- not only has she been a loyal friend and peer; her teaching skills and class preparation is second to none. I still remember during that first teaching experience together, Carol showing me all her class samples- I have been jealous ever since- I was so in awe of their beauty, skill and presentation.

Carol, as a tutor, is generous in nature and spirit, the only limitations within her workshop is 'time'. You will leave with your head spinning and your heart singing with all the creative possibilities that she has opened for you to explore.

Carols art practise is world renown, her prize winning Art Quilts and Art Wear has Carol's unique stamp on them- multi layered, dripping in cords and embellishments, gorgeously coloured and heavily textured. She creates magic from her sewing machine.

Treat yourself to a workshop, visit one of her exhibitions or just browse further through her website. What more can a textile artist want?

In 2000 I attended "Embroidery 2000" in Auckland, New Zealand. There I spent a week under Carol's tutelage, learning to sew and embroider outside my then comfort zone. I am very grateful for what Carol showed me that I could do if I gave it a go. Amazingly, at the end of the week Carol told me that I should be looking to do more three dimensional work - she must have seen something in me that I had yet to discover.

My works since then have gone on to be more and more three dimensional, and I am not afraid to try something new. I have also attended another of Carol's workshops since then, which I enjoyed immensely. Carol is a wonderful tutor, wonderful artist and wonderful person - I recommend everyone to attend a workshop of Carol's if you have the chance. Carol's friendly approach gives you the confidence to spread your wings!

I have always enjoyed sewing after learning "sewing" at Primary School. My view of sewing changed when I saw Carol's wall hangings and art to wear garments in a textile exhibition. It was hard to imagine that these creations had been executed on a sewing machine.

Show me how, was my new motto. This is where I want to be with my sewing. I then enrolled in Carol's workshops.

Carol would encourage me to keep pushing the boundaries and her classic saying is "what if?"

Because of Carol my creative side has come to the fore, and I enter textile exhibitions. The highlight of my sewing journey was viewing my wall hanging in the same exhibition as Carol Wilkes.

Carol's technique is addictive. You have been warned.

In each workshop whether a novice or advanced student Carol equips you with knowledge of fibres and fabrics, colour, and an incredible array of techniques to alter that fabric be it stitch, burn, paint, felt and so much more.

She inspires you with her amazing display of samples and finished art quilt pieces. Carol gives you courage to help step out of the box and explore technique and design. I draw on what I have learned in her workshops continually in my own designing.
